Higher Certificate In Paralegal Studies

The Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies provides the broad foundation upon which your career can be built.

Our philosophy is that before a paralegal becomes a specialist he or she must first become a generalist. Whatever particular area of law you may want to specialise in does not operate in a vacuum. It is vital to have a sound knowledge and understanding of the English legal System and knowledge of other legal areas also. Written by specialists in the field of paralegalism, especially for the paralegal.

On gaining the qualification you will be eligible to apply for Associate Membership of The Association which will entitle you to use the designatory letters 'A.PLL' after your name.This will distinguish you as being a qualified paralegal. NB: Students who take single subjects of either module are only enititled to Affiliate membership.

This course is very popular and has proven to be extremely successful. It is the stepping stone to a great and rewarding career in the legal profession. The material is written in a way which is easy to follow and understand. At the end, you will be equipped to be a successful paralegal who would be an asset to any legal environment.

Syllabus

The syllabus consists of two Modules, each Module having five Units. In all, therefore, there are ten subject areas to study:

Module 1: General Principles of Law

The English Legal System; the Law of Contract; the Law of Tort; Criminal Law; Wills, Intestacy and Family Provision.

Module 2: Procedural Law
Civil Litigation; Criminal Practice; Matrimonial and Civil Partnership Disputes; Conveyancing; Succession.

An exemption can be given in respect of Module 1 if the student can show that they have similar qualifications of like standard.

Study Options
This course can also be taken as single units or in modules( five subjects).
Distance Learning Course

As a distance learning student, you study at home in your own time. There are no time constraints. The average time taken to complete the whole course by distance learning is 14 months if you study the recommended 7 hrs per week. Qualification is gained by assessment of course work as you go along.

Distance Learning Assessment

Each unit is divided into lessons and has a multiple choice achievement test and one or more assignments. All tests assignments will be marked and graded and will be returned with a model answer for comparison. The tutor will answer any queries that the student may have and give unlimited help and guidance if there is anything that the student may not fully understand.

The course material is written by experts and is presented in an interesting and enjoyable manner and the student is assisted in every way to completely understand the subjects studied and to feel confident in their knowledge. Several students have commented that the style of the course of material is as if they were listening to it in a classroom. The material takes you step by step through each lesson of each Unit, bringing the subjects to life.

In order to obtain the Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies the student is required to satisfactorily complete all the test and assignments in both modules (unless he/she is ex- empted from the General Principals of Law Module).

The complete course is provided by email in the form of PDF/MS WORD documents or by CD. The course is complete in itself and no additional books need be acquired.

Classroom Assessment
Assessment is by way of two, three hour exams:General Principlas of Law and Procedural Law.

Two GCSE's at Grade B or above

Four GCSE's at Grade C or D

BTEC 1st Diploma (NVQ/GNVQ Level 2 or above)

ILEX Level 2 or Level 3 Qualifications

Other (Please specify)

Mature Student (A signed declaration will be required)

A good command of written and spoken English is required.

Cost
The course cost is £585 for both Modules. Students can pay either in full or by way of deposit and standing order payments.
Individual Modules cost £350
Single Subjects cost £225

Delivery Policy
Upon receipt of the course fees, or if paying by instalments on receipt of the initial payment, the course material is delivered by first class post or emailed within twenty-one days.
Refund / Return / Cancellation Policy
A student can cancel within 10 days of the receipt by them of the study material supplied and will receive a refund of the full amount paid, less the sum of £5 to cover postage and packing, provided that the said study material is returned in 'as new' condition. No refunds will be made in any other circumstances.
